FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We've received a couple of complaints recently regarding the 'quality' of cards in the Copy Left edition, and thought we should explain the Copy Left 'policy'. It is basically that everyone is allowed to participate: there is no jury selection nor rejection of cards because of 'acceptable quality' (however, we will not accept racist, sexist, or fascist cards). We believe that the people particpating are making the best cards to their ability, and hope that people new to creative practice will be informed as to what is possible by other participants' cards. That is the condition of Copy Left, and in participating you accept this condition.

QUESTION: IF I SEND 20 CARDS TO COPY-LEFT - WILL I GET A SET OF 15 CARDS BACK?
yes: you'll get a set of 15 cards from 15 different traders back plus an address list of all participants of the set. WHEN DID THE ARTIST TRADING CARD EDITIONS START AND HOW OFTEN ARE THEY PUBLISHED? the first edition was edited in december 1997 - at end of april 2002 237 editions were assembled. the editions are sent back to the participants as soon as a set is completed - so it depends on the contributers how often it is published. right now the average is 4 to 6 sets per month.

QUESTION: WHAT HAPPENS TO THE 5 EXTRA SETS?
the 5 extra sets are going to archives to be shown in exhibitions. 2 sets are in the COPY-LEFT archive, zürich, switzerland 1 set is in the CSE (chuck stake enterprises) archive in calgary, canada 1 set (almost complete) is in miami beach, usa 1 set is going to different places. the sets were shown in calgary, canada and in zürich, switzerland in official exhibitions (1998, 1999, 2000 and 2001).
